Our Story

Spatzenschule Melbourne was founded in 2007 and has grown into one of Melbourne’s leading German native speaker programs. Today we support 30–40 students in the Sparrows and Falcons programs – from Prep to Year 12.

Our Structure – run by parents, for children

A not-for-profit parent association

Spatzenschule is run by a registered, not-for-profit parent association – comparable to a German parent initiative. The association is responsible for:

  • Employing the teachers
  • Managing insurance
  • Organising day-to-day operations

Our Committee

At the operational heart is our volunteer committee, elected each year. Its responsibilities include:

  • Enrolments & communication
  • Finances & administration
  • Selecting and supporting our teachers
  • Planning cultural activities & school events

Our Community

All parents automatically become members of the association and are warmly invited to support the program. This creates a strong, warm and vibrant German-speaking community that gives our children a stable linguistic and cultural home.
